W 2003 r. prezydent USA George W. Bush rozpoczął inwazję na Irak. Usprawiedliwił ją twierdzeniem (jak się okazało fałszywym), że dyktator Saddam Husajn wspierał Al-Kaidę i posiadał broń masowego rażenia. Do wojny przyłączyły się m.in. Polska i Wielka Brytania, a jej skutki, np. niepokoje w Afryce i na Bliskim Wschodzie, odczuwamy do dziś. Kolekcja była bezpośrednią reakcją na te oraz inne akty terroru z tego czasu.

„Wojna w Darfurze, która wybuchła w 2003 roku, została uznana za pierwsze ludobójstwo w XXI wieku. Zaczęła się wtedy, gdy sudańska armia wysłała muzułmańską milicję dżandżawidzi, by stłumiła powstanie czarnych Afrykańczyków (…) Dżandżawidzi rozpoczęli systematyczne czystki etniczne”.

Arkadius alarmował, że za każdym krwawym konfliktem kryje się manipulacja religijna albo żądza władzy. Wiele zbrodni dokonano z Bogiem lub Allahem na ustach i pod narodową flagą. Znak dolara wskazuje na kolejną przyczynę wojen – zachłanność mocarstwa. Arkadius połączył symbole zwaśnionych kultur, narodów i religii, takie jak: gwiazda Dawida, kefija, agal, flaga USA, Statua Wolności, nikab i korona cierniowa. Razem utworzyły one symboliczny utopijno-idealistyczny sojusz i jeden z najważniejszych manifestów politycznych w dziejach mody.

Kolekcji była wyrazem bezsilności projektanta wobec okrucieństwa wojen. „Jesteśmy przerażająco bezbronni, ale mamy inteligencję i musimy mieć nadzieję” – skwitował.

W podsumowaniu 2003 r. magazyn „The Face” uznał, że zamknięcie pokazu „USoM” na London Fashion Week, czyli wyjście na wybieg Petry Němcovej w sukni w kształcie zakrwawionego gołębia, było najważniejszym wydarzeniem w modzie. Arkadius wyprzedził Alexandra McQueena, Gucciego i Vivienne Westwood.

In 2003, US President George W. Bush launched the invasion of Iraq. He justified it by claiming (erroneously, as it turned out) that dictator Saddam Hussein supported al-Qaeda and possessed weapons of mass destruction. Poland and the United Kingdom, among others, joined the war, and its effects, such as unrest in Africa and the Middle East, are still being felt today. The collection was a direct response to these and other acts of terror from that time.

"Had it not been for this dramatic, idiotic mistake, the Islamic State might not have come into existence," says Krzysztof Stary on the Tygodnik Powszechny weekly podcast (27.03.2023).
"The occupation quickly escalated into a bloody civil war, with both sides torturing and killing civilians. In 2005, President George W. Bush admitted that information about the Hussein regime's possession of chemical weapons – the immediate reason for the invasion – was false," wrote Adam Leszczynski on the Oko.press website (19.03.2023).

“The first Darfur War, which began in 2003, was deemed the first genocide of the 21st century. It began when the Sudanese army dispatched the Arab Janjaweed militia to repress an uprising by the region’s Black African tribes, who said they were rebelling against a de facto apartheid system. The Janjaweed (...) embarked on a systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing.”

Arkadius sounded the alarm that behind every bloody conflict there was either religious manipulation or lust for power. Many crimes have been committed in the name of God or Allah, and under a national flag. The dollar sign points to another cause of wars – the greed of the powerful. Arkadius combined symbols of warring cultures, nations and religions, such as the Star of David, the keffiyeh, the agal, the US flag, the Statue of Liberty, the niqab and the crown of thorns. Together, they formed a symbolic utopian-idealist alliance and one of the most important political manifestos in the history of fashion.

The collection was an expression of the designer's helplessness in the face of the cruelty of war.
"We are terrifyingly vulnerable. But we have intelligence. And we must cling to hope," he commented.

In its 2003 year-in-review, The Face magazine named the closing of the USoM show at London Fashion Week, where Petra Němcova made her way down the catwalk in a dress shaped like a bloody dove, the most important fashion event of the year. With this, Arkadius outdid Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Vivienne Westwood.
